Delicious and Dependable - Saakshi's Indian Food Made for Everyday Eating

Simi Gajala

Restaurant Indian is celebration food. Ghar ka khana is Tuesday night. That one line explains Saakshi's Indian food better than any slogan: delicious dishes cooked the way a family cooks them, made to be eaten on an ordinary weekday - not just when you're celebrating.

Key takeaways

  • Everyday Indian food is its own repertoire: dal, rajma, chole, kadhi and whatever sabzi is in season.
  • It's cooked for daily eating - mild heat, familiar staples, complete single portions.
  • The masala is built from scratch for every batch: no standing gravy base, no cream-and-butter finish.
  • Meals arrive frozen and cook straight from frozen, so a Tuesday needs no planning.
  • 79% of orders come from returning families - the strongest signal we can offer that this food bears repeating.

What everyday Indian food actually is

A home kitchen doesn't run on tikka masala. It runs a weekly rotation: dal one night, rajma the next, chole for the weekend, kadhi when the yoghurt needs using, whatever sabzi is in season - always with roti or rice alongside. Each of our dishes is a complete meal, portioned as a meal rather than a sharing platter, because that's how a household actually eats. See this week's rotation.

Cooked for daily eating

Food you eat every day has to be cooked differently from food you eat twice a year. So home cooking is spiced, not hot - the chilli sits back and the jeera, dhania and haldi come forward, at the heat level a family actually cooks at. And the pantry is everyday staples you could name from memory: haldi, jeera, dhania, rai, hing, ajwain, methi, garam masala; dal, atta, rice, ghee. An ingredient list you could read out to your mum. We've written a full guide to the spices in our masala dabba if you want the detail.

The method behind the taste

Every batch starts the same way: onion, tomato, ginger and garlic, bhuno'd down until the masala darkens and the oil separates, then the spices in the right order for that dish, and - for dal - a tadka done at the end, the way it's finished at home. There is no standing gravy base and no cream-and-butter finish for consistency. The same recipe every time, from one family kitchen, is what makes the food dependable.

How Tuesday actually works

Saakshi's Kitchen cooks in small batches in our FSA 5-star kitchen, then freezes each meal. Your order arrives frozen and goes straight into the freezer, where it keeps until the evening you want it. Cook or reheat straight from frozen until piping hot, following the pack instructions. Once a meal has defrosted, never refreeze it - eat it within 24 hours. Dinner stops being a decision and becomes a drawer.

Who this is for

The family that wants dinner sorted on work nights. The student missing home. The parent you can't cook for from two hundred miles away. Anyone who has ever asked "khaana khaya?" down a phone line and wanted a better answer. Build a box of the dishes they actually eat, or see how the tiffin service works week to week.

Frequently asked questions

What is ghar ka khana?

Hindi for "home food" - the everyday dishes an Indian family cooks for itself: dal, rajma, chole, kadhi, sabzi, roti and rice, mildly spiced and eaten on ordinary days.

Can you eat Indian food every day?

The home version is cooked for exactly that: mild heat, a rotation that changes through the week, and complete single portions. Everyday food, not occasion food.

Is Saakshi's Indian food spicy?

It is spiced rather than hot - milder than a typical restaurant curry, with the aromatic spices doing the work instead of chilli.

How do the meals arrive?

Frozen, from our FSA 5-star kitchen. They keep in the freezer and cook or reheat straight from frozen until piping hot, following the pack instructions.
